About our ELL Program Our ELL program has a multi-sensory approach, which means that it will appeal to a student’s individual learning style – visual, auditory, tactile, or kinesthetic. The program is based on Orton- Gillingham principles of instruction. I deal extensively with basic reading/word attack skills. I integrate a lot of technology in my instruction. The students find it to be fun, interactiveand engaging. The instruction helps ELLs become able to understand concepts quickly and effectively. This program is highly effective and works for all students, no matter their learning styles. My goal is not only improve ELLs decoding, phonemic awareness, and phonics skills, but also their spelling and writing.

Acquisition vs Learning
Language Acquisition- All children learn or acquire their first language (the language they speak at home) and their second language (English).  There is a difference between “learning” language and “acquisition” of language.  The term “acquisition” is used to emphasize the natural processes and ways that a child acquires a language. The term “learning” can be used generally or to emphasize “formal learning” of a language such as in a grammar class. (Enhancing English Language Learning in Elementary Classroom)
