LAST COMMANDING OFFICER OF USS MISSISSIPPI CGN-40
Captain Lawrence A. Lewandowski was born 9 June 1950 in Detroit, MI. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, where he
received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1972
Captain Lewandowski's first shipboard assignment was as the Electronic Warfare Officer in USS KOELSCH (FF1049). He then attended Nuclear
Power School in Bainbridge, MD, followed by training at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, NY. Follow-on tours included "B" Division
Officer in USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9), Operations Officer in USS RICHARD B. BYRD (DDG 23), Damage Control Assistant in USS DWIGHT D.
EISENHOWER (CVN 69), and Executive Officer in USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9). Captain Lewandowski commanded USS PETERSON (DD 969) and
most recently served as Engineer Officer on USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65).
Captain Lewandowski also attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces from August of 1993 to the time of 1994. Among the decoration and service medals he
received are: Three Meritorious Service Medals, Three Navy Commendation Medals and the Navy Achievement Medal.
Captain Lewandowski is married to the former Mary Fryc of Detroit, MI. The Lewandowski's have six children: Linda, Adam, Charles, Amy, Robert, and Christine. They make
their home in Virginia Beach, VA.
