Leo Club Park in
downtown Hammonton |
Leo Clubs are part of the Lions Clubs International
worldwide service organization and are the
official Youth programs of Lions. Beginning
in 1957 and becoming established internationally
in 1968, Leos follow the same principle and
aims as Lions. Leo Clubs are formed and operated
under the guidance of a Lions Club and are
made up of young people from early teens
to late twenties. Most clubs are of a similar
age group with both male and female membership.
Leo Clubs throughout the world have contributed
in many ways to raise funds for the purchase
of life saving equipment for hospitals, devices
for the disabled and many forms of help to
those less fortunate in their communities.
But Leos are not just raising money for charity
and providing community service. Belonging
to a Leo Club is about making friends, having
responsible fun with a purpose and the satisfaction
derived from helping others. Fellowship and
social events play a big part in Leo activities.
These clubs give young people the opportunity
to participate in Lions projects and community
service activities. One such project is the
establisment and maintenance of Leo Club
Park in downtown Hammonton.
